Choi Eun-Mi

Abstract
A survey was conducted to 354 students who were enrolled in 4 colleges and 3 universities in Jeollabuk province with an aim to sound out the extent of their concern for skin health including their skin conditions, types, problems and efforts to solve the problems. For this aim, an analysis was made by comparing between male and female students. The outcomes of the survey are expected to provide basic data for performing effective skin health education, not to speak of offering fundamental and segmentalized information to cosmetics, skin management and health food industries that have yielded remarkable growth day by day.
In sum, there was virtually no significant difference between males and females during their 20"s in terms of skin types although female students were found to take more active measures for maintaining good skin health while male students featured lower grade of skin health and made less efforts for it. However, there always exists possibility not only for female but also for male students to touch off skin problems from using cosmetics and habits like smoking, drinking and stress in life. Caused by various internal and external factors, cosmetic problems such as wrinkles, degraded resilience and dryness in skin started to take place even from the thirties or forties. In order to prevent the problems mentioned above and keep skin beautiful and healthy, a constant and adequate management of it should begin from the 20"s. Taking into account particular interests in and measures for cosmetics and skin as demonstrated in currently fashionable phrases like "men who do make-up" or "skin as beautiful as entertainers", it is evident that those in the 20"s seem to be more positive in their concern for make-up and skin condition. It is thus needed to endeavor to provide exact in formation concerning proper skin management and guide consumers to focus more on their own skin. The continuously growing cosmetic, skin management and health food industries themselves should not entirely hold on advertising their products for sale but extend also their scope of efforts toward disseminating information for proper skin management and educating customers on the spot for enabling them to select proper cosmetics in a joint effort for everybody to keep skin beautiful and healthy.
